In a physical game at Texas A&M International University, the Laredo Heat defeated Brazos Valley Cavalry 1-0 on a second half penalty kick by Francois Sakou.

This year, NTX Rayados advanced to play the Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup, but they are not the first Dallas-based amateur side to face an MLS team. That honor belongs to Dallas Roma FC, who not only faced a MLS team, but they eliminated one.

The Houston Dynamo opened its 2014 US Open Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over PDL side Laredo Heat on Wednesday night. Honduran midfielder Alexander Lopez opened his scoring account for the Dynamo with the game’s lone goal.
