The Portland Timbers Under-23s punched their ticket to the Second Round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup by defeating the visiting Kitsap Pumas 5-0.
La Maquina, a team that qualified for Open Cup play last fall before being suspended by its league following an altercation at the end of a playoff match, bested the Portland Timbers U23s 2-0 Wednesday night at Providence Park.
Arizona United opened their 2014 US Open Cup campaign with a dramatic 3-2 win over the Portland Timbers U23s. Sherrod, chipped Sacramento goalkeeper Dominic Jakubek in the 78th minute to complete the home side’s comeback after the Timbers trailed 2-0 in the first half.
A dozen clubs are making a return appearance in the event, including 10 that were in the tournament this past year. Four sides will be making their US Open Cup debuts in 2013.
