Chattanooga FC used a late goal to propel them to extra time against the Ocala Stampede and goalkeeper Gregory Hartley scored from the mark to secure a victory in the First Round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
With the victory, Orlando City will host the Tampa Bay Rowdies on May 28 in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, which will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
If Sporting KC had plans of using reserves for the Open Cup, apparently Dom Dwyer is not a part of them as the red-hot goal scorer for Orlando City netted once again on loan while leading the USL Pro side to a 2-1 victory against the PDL Ocala Stampede.
It was a night of firsts for the Ocala Stampede of the PDL—the most important being the club’s first US Open Cup victory in the 100th incarnation of the storied tournament.
A dozen clubs are making a return appearance in the event, including 10 that were in the tournament this past year. Four sides will be making their US Open Cup debuts in 2013.
According to sources at the United Soccer Leagues’ annual general meeting in Tampa, Fla., the Premier Development League will have 16 entries into the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup for the second straight year.
