2012 US Open Cup Fourth Round: Last-minute PK gives Chivas USA 2-1 win over Carolina RailHawks
After rallying for a victory against the Los Angeles Galaxy the week before, it looked like the Carolina Railhawks may repeat the feat against the vanquished sides local rival Chivas USA. Instead, an unfortunate handball in the final moments gave the California club the last-minute penalty winner, 2-1.
2012 US Open Cup Round 3: Chivas USA hold off local amateur Ventura County Fusion
It was the shortest trip of all the Major League Soccer sides in the tournament, but by no means was it an easy one as Chivas USA squeezed out a 1-0 victory against Ventura County Fusion, one of three remaining amateur clubs in the tournament.

It was an agonizingly long wait as it took two games and 84 minutes for the Major League Soccer Portland Timbers to effectively register their first official victory, snaring a 2-0 win against Chivas USA with two late goals from Jack Jewsbury and Eric Brunner at Merlo Field Tuesday evening in the opening round of MLS qualifying for the US Open Cup.
2010 US Open Cup Semifinals: Seattle Sounders will defend Open Cup title at home after 3-1 win vs. Chivas USA
The Sounders, undefeated in Open Cup play on the FieldTurf of the Starfire Sports Complex in suburban Tukwila, advanced to the final with a 3-1 win over Chivas USA Wednesday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,547 fans. Seattle won the bid to host the game at Qwest Field if they reached the final, and will face the Columbus Crew on Oct. 5 for the chance to add a second trophy to their case.
2010 US Open Cup Quarterfinals: Justin Braun’s brace powers Chivas USA past Houston, 3-1
Justin Braun of Chivas USA scored early and late, and the Goats defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-1 to reach their Open Cup Semifinals. The win was also their first at Houston’s Robertson Stadium.
2010 U.S. Open Cup Third Round: Chivas USA hold on, defeat Austin 1-0
Chivas USA scored early, then held on to defeat USSF Second Division team Austin Aztex, snapping two winless streaks. The Goats had not won a game in almost two months, and had not won an Open Cup match in seven years.
2009 Third Round: Randi Patterson’s brace earns him Player of the Round
With a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA of Major League Soccer in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the Charleston Battery became the first USL team to advance to the Quarterfinals three years in a row. The main reason they were able to do that was Randi Patterson, who scored two goals in the match, and for his efforts, he has been voted as TheCup.us Player of the Round.
2009 Third Round recap: Portland, Seattle renew rivalry, Houston face Battery (again)
The underdogs of the USL ruled on day one of the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, but the Seattle Sounders and the Houston Dynamo each earned wins on Wednesday to level the tournament with four MLS teams and four USL teams in the Quarterfinals. For the second year in a row, the USL will have at least one team in the Semifinals.
The Houston Dynamo defeated the Austin Aztex 2-0 on Wednesday to set up a date with the Charleston Battery next Tuesday at Blackbaud Stadium. This will be the third year in a row that the Battery and the Dynamo square off in the Open Cup with Charleston eliminating Houston in both years.
