The Richmond Kickers traveled to Ludlow, Mass. and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Western Mass Pioneers. Stanley Nyazamba’s 83rd minute goal proved to be the game-winner as the Kickers move on to the Third Round.

In the lone upset in this year’s opening round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, Hollywood United became only the second USASA club to defeat a USL First Division team in the tournament, knocking off the Portland Timbers with a dramatic, stoppage-time goal from Earl Alexander.
2008 First Round: Richmond disarms the Fredericksburg Gunners, 3-0
The Fredericksburg Gunners’ first Open Cup run was cut short by the Richmond Kickers, who are making their 10th trip to the tournament. Kickers score a trio of first half goals to beat the Gunners 3-0.
Richmond scored all of its goals in the first 25 minutes, starting with midfielder Eliot Paschalis’ tally in the 11th.
2007 Quarterfinals: RailHawks swoop into the Semifinals, beat Richmond 1-0
In a rare all-USL Quarterfinal match, the Carolina RailHawks advanced to the Semifinals with a 1-0 win at home over the Richmond Kickers. Connally Edozien was the hero for the home side scoring in the 64th minute on a cross from Jonny Steele.
2007 Third Round: Galactic upset! Richmond eliminate LA Galaxy 1-0
The Richmond Kickers pulled off the biggest upset in franchise history with a 1-0 win against Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bulow pounced on a mishandled corner kick in the 29th minute and the Kickers defense held the Galaxy off the scoresheet for the rest of the game in front of their home fans at University of Richmond Stadium.

2007 First Round: Richmond hands Michigan Bucks first-ever opening round loss
For the first time in club history, including six previous appearances in the US Open Cup, the Michigan Bucks were eliminated in the First Round of the tournament. It was a battle between the Bucks, the defending PDL champion, and the Richmond Kickers, the defending USL Second Division champion, and it was the Kickers who came out on top, 4-2. The loss by the Bucks also ruined their perfect 5-0 all-time record against professional teams from the Second Division.
