FC Dallas - Orlando City - 2011 Third Round

Minus overtime or penalty kicks, it does not get as dramatic a finish as what Open Cup fans witnessed from Frisco’s Pizza Hut Park Tuesday night in the Third Round of the tournament. With the host Major League Soccer side FC Dallas leading the third division Orlando City, the visitors leveled the score in stoppage time only to see the home side answer back moments later nearly at the death for a 3-2 victory.

June 29, 2011 by Tavio Palazzolo

FC New York had been looking forward to this match since they proposed an annual exhibition with the New York Red Bulls during their inaugural announcement back on April 1, 2009. The USL Pro side finally got their chance to take on Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls, but this game counted. It was a Third Round match in the 2011 US Open Cup, and although they scored a stunning opening goal, they couldn’t hold on, as the Red Bulls won 2-1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
