In the second of our four previews of PDL qualifying, we take a look at the Eastern Conference which features three different divisions all fighting to send their best team to the tournament.
Long Island Rough Riders
PDL qualification for this season is complete, with eight teams punching their ticket to the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The qualifiers – and their competitors – had to deal with multiple tiebreakers and plenty of final day nail biting action. Even then, for two teams, a perfect 4-0-0 record wasn’t enough to send them through.
The Rhinos needed only one goal to defeat the PDL Long Island Rough Riders, and advance to the Second Round of the US Open Cup. For Long Island, it was their first appearance in the tournament since they moved down to the PDL from the Second Division.
Matthew Delicâte’s goal came in the 20th minute, heading in a cross from Stephen Shirley-Black.
