Despite playing in a torrential downpour throughout the match, Phoenix SC captured their first Eastern Pennsylvania Open Cup championship, defeating the United German Hungarians (UGH) 2-1 in overtime. Kamara Freebolle scored the equalizer and Jack Pocorobba put home the game-winner to put the club one step closer to qualifying for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Eastern Pennsylvania will soon have a representative in the USASA Region I Finals as the championship game was set in stone this past weekend. The United German Hungarians (UGH) and Phoenix SC will meet in the deciding game after posting Semifinal victories in matches held at each team’s respective home fields, just north of Philadelphia.
2010 Qualifying: Phoenix knocks off their Ukrainian rivals, advance to Eastern PA semis
With unseasonable 70 degree weather in Feasterville, Pa., Phoenix SC and the Ukranian Nationals met in the latest edition of a long-standing rivalry. In one of four Eastern Pennsylvania Open Cup games played that day, Phoenix got the best of their Ukranian rivals, beating them 3-0 to advance to the Third Round of the tournament.
