2010 US Open Cup Third Round: City Islanders back in quarterfinals after OT winner upsets Red Bulls

For the second year in a row and the third time in four years, the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL Second Division pulled off an upset of an MLS club in the third round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. This year, they added another MLS upset to their US Open Cup resume with a 1-0 overtime win over the New York Red Bulls, as Dominic Oppong scored the game-winning goal in extra time.

2010 US Open Cup Third Round: Charleston advances in PKs as Chicago can’t find net

After a scoreless two hours, the Chicago Fire’s scoreless woes continued as USL-2’s Charleston won the penalty shootout 3-0. Battery goalkeeper Tim Melia, on loan from MLS’s Real Salt Lake, was the star of the night, stopping all 8 of the Fire’s shots on goal, and adding a save in the shootout.

2010 US Open Cup Third Round: Sounders outlast Timbers in PKs to move on to quarterfinals

It took 120-plus minutes and penalty kicks, but the Seattle Sounders remained on track to defend their U.S. Open Cup. And it was only fitting that an old Portland Timbers nemesis from back in the USL days, Sounders defender Zach Scott, was the one to seal the deal in this the greatest of Northwest derbies that will only intensify when both clubs are in MLS next year and beyond.

Host possibilities for the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Third Round announced

U.S. Soccer has announced the home teams for the third round possible pairings in the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with the inclusion of Major League Soccer teams. Results from the second round of play on June 22 will determine the potential matchups and venues for the third round to take place one week later on Tuesday, June 29.

2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup results

The first two rounds of the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup are complete and now the big boys join the party. The eight teams that have emerged from rounds one and two will each face a club from Major League Soccer on June 29 or June 30.
