For the second year in a row, the Chicago Fire had to go to a shootout to determine a winner against an Ohio team. This year, things were different.

Every year there’s a surprise team in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. A squad of players that makes it farther than anyone thinks they should. A team vying for that title this year is the Kendall Wanderers from Massachusetts.

FC Cincinnati to kick off 2018 US Open Cup at Gettler Stadium: “Like Metallica playing a small venue”

FC Cincinnati, who broke multiple US Open Cup attendance records last year, announced that they will host their Second Round match on May 16 at the University of Cincinnati’s Gettler Stadium, a soccer stadium that will have a capacity of less than 3,000.

After 120 minutes of scoreless soccer, Cincinnati won the shootout 3-1 sending one of the biggest crowds in tournament history into a frenzy at Nippert Stadium.
