2015 US Open Cup qualifying: Harpo’s FC from Boulder, Colorado punches ticket despite losing USSSA final to KC Athletics (updated)

Harpo’s FC will take on the Kansas City Athletics in Sunday’s championship game (Noon CT), but since the Athletics have already qualified for the 102nd tournament through the USASA, the Boulder, Colorado club will represent the USSSA.

American soccer is back and ramping up across the country and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is no exception. Another bid to the 2015 tournament will be handed out this weekend at the Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, Kansas.

The Minnesota United FC goalkeeper made big save after big save, keeping his team in the game even after going down to 10 men. But Soony Saad finally beat Hildebrandt in the 76th minute with a low, skipping drive and Sporting Kansas City advanced to the US Open Cup round of 16 with a 2-0 victory.

Goalkeeper Mark Saxby of the Colorado Rovers didn’t allow a single goal throughout the tournament and was named MVP of the championship game as they defeated the Kansas City Athletics 1-0 in extra time.
