2019 US Open Cup Semifinals: Mason Toye’s winner sends Minnesota United past Timbers, into first-ever Final

With the win, Minnesota United becomes the first Minnesota club in the history of the US Open Cup to advance to the championship game. They will face Atlanta United FC on Aug. 27 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

With a hat trick from Colombian forward Angelo Rodriguez, a team from Minnesota will compete in the US Open Cup Semifinals for the first time since 2005.

The Colombian connection offered a potent punch Wednesday at Allianz Field. Combining for three of Minnesota’s goals in the 4-1 win, Darwin Quintero and Angelo Rodriguez propelled the Loons to their first victory in four tries against Sporting KC.

Sporting Kansas City’s Dom Dwyer produced four goals in his team’s 6-2 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup win over FC Dallas and as a result, has been named TheCup.us Player of the Round. By halftime, Dwyer had hit a hat trick, and added a free-kick goal to his tally in the second half.
