Six clubs representing five states met at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend for the National Premier Soccer League’s Southeast Division tournament for one of the league’s four Lamar Hunt US Open Cup berths. When the dust settled, it was the host team, Chattanooga FC, who qualified for the Open Cup for the first time.

Hosted by Chattanooga FC, the event kicks off Friday, May 27 with a pair of First Round matches. Knoxville Force and Jacksonville United FC meet in the first match followed by Rocket City United versus FC Tulsa.

Bear Bryant and the Alabama Crimson Tide are associated with the type of football normally played in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but this weekend the other game of football will hold court at the University of Alabama Recreational Center. Eight amateur teams will compete to determine which two will represent the USASA’s Region III in this summer’s Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

The southeastern part of the country will take part in US Open Cup qualifying as Region III of the USASA confirmed their participants in the annual competition. 10 teams from Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Oklahoma will battle for two spots in the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
