UPDATE: Click here for a review of the final eight games of Round 2.
Eight spots in the third and final round of qualifying are up for grabs this weekend as we turn our attention (mostly) out west. Three games will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21 while the other five will be played on Sunday, Nov. 22.

SATURDAY, NOV. 21
Queen City United (NC) at CD Motagua of New Orleans (LA)
Pan American Stadium; New Orleans, LA – 8 p.m. EST
UPDATE: CD Motagua 5:2 Queen City United
This is the only inter-state matchup on the schedule this weekend. CD Motagua of New Orleans got here by way of a forfeit when Tobacco Road FC, also of North Carolina, withdrew on Sept. 30. Queen City United will carry on and make the 700 mile trip to the bayou after cruising to a 4-1 win over Charlotte Sporting Soccer Academy FC in Round 1. As their name might suggest, CD Motagua were founded in tribute to the Honduras professional side of the same name. They play in the latin influenced Liga Islano system in New Orleans and are aiming to become the first Louisiana-based amateur club to qualify for the Open Cup in the Modern Era. Queen City United, who are seeking their first tournament berth, call the National Soccer League home.
La Maquina (South CA) at Chula Vista FC (South CA)
Eastlake High; Chula Vista, CA – 9 p.m. EST
UPDATE: La Maquina 4:0 Chula Vista FC
The Santa Ana, Calif.-based La Maquina are attempting to qualify for the US Open Cup for the first time and they began that journey with a 3-2 Round 1 win over their United Premier League rivals Strikers FC South Coast. Chula Vista FC, meanwhile, are anxious to get back to their second straight Open Cup. They shocked USL side Arizona United in the 2015 edition of the tournament last spring. Chula Vista will be missing team captain Luis Alvarado, who tore his MCL in the team’s 5-2 comeback win over Temecula FC in Round 1. His presence will be missed as his side bring back just eight players from the team that beat Arizona United and only just won their first league game recently. Cal FC (South CA) at LA Wolves FC (South CA)
Toyota Sports Complex (Field 1); Torrance, CA – 10:30 p.m. EST
UPDATE: LA Wolves FC 2:1 Cal FC
Speaking of former Open Cup darlings, Cal FC are looking to get back to the tournament that put them on the map in 2012, when they took down MLS side Portland Timbers in one of the most incredible Open Cup upsets ever. They’re in good form after crushing Valley United 4-0 in Round 1. LA Wolves are looking to make some history of their own after winning their first ever qualifying match a few weeks ago against Del Rey City FC. They’ll be ready for anything after they needed an 85th minute goal from Suri Keira just to get to this point.
SUNDAY, NOV. 22
Boca Raton FC (FL) at Uruguay Kendall (FL)
Broward College South Campus; Pembroke Pines, FL – 3:30 p.m.
The lone game in the Eastern Time Zone will feature a pair of talented teams in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Uruguay Kendall FC, as their name suggests, has a roster influenced heavily by South America. Former Montevideo Wanderers (Uruguay) first teamer Alexander Joseph will feature as well as Mauricio Costa, who started in goal for Colombia’s U-17 World Cup team in 2007. Boca Raton FC feature a pair of former professionals as well: Nickardo Blake, formerly of Real Salt Lake and Fort Luaderdale Strikers, and Scott Gordon, formerly of FC Dallas, Chivas USA, and Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Uruguay Kendall FC beat local rivals Red Force 3-0 in Round 1 while Boca Raton defeated Real Miami CF 2-1 in extra time after regulation ended 0-0. These two sides met in the inaugural American Premier Soccer League final, where Boca Raton came away victorious, 1-0, after Uruguay Kendall received not one, but two red cards early in the second half.
Colorado Rush (CO) at Harpo’s FC (CO)
Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (Field 8); Commerce City, CO – 4 p.m. EST
Boulder pub side Harpo’s FC are looking to qualify for the second year in a row after eliminating the KC Athletics (USASA) and the PDL’s BYU Cougars in last year’s competition before falling just short against the USL’s Colorado Springs Switchbacks, 2-1. Harpo’s handled Colorado Rovers pretty easily, winning 4-1 in Round 1 of qualifying. Colorado Rush beat another Boulder side, FC Boulder, in Round 1 by a score of 5-2. The two sides will duke it out under the bright lights of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Commerce City home to MLS side Colorado Rapids. They will play on field No. 8 of the DSG complex.
Davis Legacy (NCA) at San Francisco City FC (NCA)
Kezar Stadium; San Francisco, Calif. – 5 p.m.
A 19th minute penalty kick was all the Davis Legacy needed to win their first-ever Open Cup qualifier in Round 1. They just formed in the spring of 2015 and, after beating IFX Ballistic, are looking to burst onto the Open Cup scene. Standing in their way is fan-owned San Francisco City FC, who qualified for the 2015 Open Cup and are anxious to get back. In the 2015 tournament, City lost a tight game to Cal FC in the Preliminary Round. The two sides will meet in San Francisco’s historic Kezar Stadium. You find more info about San Francisco City in this in-depth profile.
San Nicolas (SCA) at Real Sociedad (SCA)
St. John Bosco Football Stadium; Bellflower, Calif. – 7:30 p.m.
San Nicholas’ qualifying run has been, if nothing else, very strange up to this point. They advanced via forfeit after Round 1 opponents Corinthians USA failed to register the minimum number of players. The two teams played each other anyway and San Nicolas won 2-0 in a game that was cut short by the stadium lights going out unexpectedly. They’ll be hoping their most famous player, Cuban international and former Chivas USA player Maykel Galindo, makes a full recovery after he left the Round 1 “contest” with an injury. Real Sociedad will be brimming with confidence after battling back to tie Round 1 opponents Ozzy’s Laguna not once, but twice, and then prevailing in the ensuing penalty kick shootout.
Outbreak FC at San Pedro Monsters FC
Toyota Sports Complex (Field 1); Torrance, CA – 10:30 p.m.
Outbreak FC, top of the SoCal Premier League standings, took care of business in Round 1 against cellar dwellers Buena Park FC by a score of 5-1. Not to be outdone, San Pedro Monsters won their first round game by a score of 9-0 against Chino Hills-based Footballers Academy. The Monsters will be hoping for another stellar performance from Andy Nunez, who scored four times in Round 1. Both sides are seeking their first-ever Open Cup berth.
