Support TheCup.us, buy #USOC2014 gear

June 11, 2014 by Josh Hakala

I’m Josh Hakala and I’m not sure if you know, I’ve been running TheCup.us since my college days 11 years ago. As a purely volunteer operation, along with my team of part-time contributors, we’ve always worked hard to give the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup the coverage the tournament deserves, from qualifying all the way to the championship game.thecup-gear

Now, with the rising popularity of the competition, the demands for better coverage have gone beyond the capabilities of our volunteer efforts. I’ve asked for donations in the past (that campaign is funding our massive website redesign), but now I’d like to give you something Red, White and Blue in return. This is sort of our own little Kickstarter campaign.

By purchasing the new #USOC2014 commemorative gear in our store, you will be helping us provide better all-around coverage of the US Open Cup. Proceeds will go toward ongoing website upgrades, expanding our coverage and preserving the history of this tournament. The new site will make the tournament even easier for fans and media to follow in the years to come.

CLICK HERE to visit our new store. If you’re not interested in picking up a shirt, but still want to support the site, we accept donations as well. Either way, we appreciate your support!

Open Cup on Twitter, Facebook & Flickr!

May 17, 2013 by Josh Hakala

TheCup.us, the only website providing comprehensive coverage to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, is now on Twitter! Now you can keep track of everything that’s going on with the tournament by following us @usopencup. You’ll find updates on qualifying, tournament games, Open Cup stories from around the web and fun historical information about the Cup’s great history.

This site was created in 2003 to bridge the media coverage void that exists for this great tournament, and Twitter is another great way for us to help soccer fans from around the country follow the Open Cup. You’ll find tons of information on the Twitter feed that you won’t find on the website, including links to other media outlets who are covering the tournament.

Fans looking to follow the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup can add Facebook to their list of online tools. Facebook members can search for “TheCup.us” or just go to www.facebook.com/thecup.us to join to get updates, share photos, and take part in message board discussion.

With the change to the new website, the old Facebook page under the name “USOpenCup.com” is closed.

Fans can also contribute to the site through our Flickr page, where you can share your US Open Cup photos. Whether you were among the handful of people attending a state qualifying match, or among the thousands at the Open Cup final, we would love to see and share your photos.

How a US Open Cup classic, locker room vandalism inspired fans to create Coffee Pot Cup

It remains one of the greatest games of the US Open Cup’s Modern Era but what happened after the game gets more attention than the instant classic that took place on the field.
