California Clasico isn’t new: North has battled South in US Open Cup since 1950s

This year’s quarterfinal meeting of the Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes will be just the sixth time the California Clasico will have been played in the US Open Cup. However, for the better part of 40 years the rivalry between Northern and Southern California was a key component in determining the Open Cup champion.

2016 Meet the Underdogs: US Open Cup debutant Outbreak SC proves that practice is overrated

Up until just a few weeks ago, Outbreak SC didn’t practice. As of last week, the club had only ever had three practices in 10 years. Yet somehow, this group of friends from the Orange County, Calif.-area has won five division titles in the last six years and are gearing up for a first round US Open Cup match Wednesday against Seattle Sounders U23s.
