A year ago, RWB Adria came to Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh and nearly spoiled the US Open Cup debut for the Riverhounds in their new soccer specific stadium. The USASA club from Chicago took the Riverhounds to penalty kicks, but the home team prevailed.
This year, RWB Adria was back at Highmark Stadium again and for the second year in a row, and after an 80th minute equalizer by Pittsburgh’s Collins John, the game went to extra time again. This time, Jhonny Arteaga received a pass from John in the 112th minute and scored to make it 3-2, avoiding another penalty kick shootout and advancing beyond the Third Round for the first time since 2001.
With the win, the Riverhounds will travel to Bridgeview to take on the Chicago Fire, the team that eliminated them in the Quarterfinals in that 2001 season.
