UPDATED (9/25/15) with US Soccer Federation’s confirmation.
Fans unable to make the trip to PPL Park to witness the 2015 US Open Cup Final between the Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City will be able to watch it from the comfort of their homes. The tournament’s 102nd championship game is set to be broadcast live on ESPN2 and the Univision Deportes Network on Wednesday, Sept. 30 beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. This was first revealed on Thursday when it was posted on the network’s TV listings page and wasn’t officially confirmed by the US Soccer Federation until late Friday. The game will also be available on the WatchESPN app.
The last time the Final was broadcast on ESPN, the A-League’s Rochester Raging Rhinos lifted the trophy at Columbus Crew Stadium in their historic in 1999. It was the only time the title game was broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. This will be the first time Univision has broadcast the championship game.
Since then, the championship game has bounced back and forth between Fox and GolTV. Fox Sports World broadcasted the Final from 2000-2003, then GolTV picked up the rights for two years before Fox Soccer Channel held it for six years (2006-11). GolTV then bought the rights in a three-year deal beginning with the 99th edition of the title game in 2012 through last year’s Final.
