The Wilmington Hammerheads cruised past the PDL’s Central Florida Kraze with a 4-0 win at Legion Stadium in Wilmington.
After a slow start from both teams, the Hammerheads finally took the offensive. In the 34th minute Jyler Noviello scored when Kraze goalkeeper Keneil Baker came off his line to challenge Noviello. Noviello assisted on the next Wilmington goal nine minutes later, as Luke Mulholland made the score 2-0 going into halftime.
Andriy Budnyy doubled the scoreline for Wilmington with two goals in three minutes in the second half. The first came in the 70th minute on an assist from Mulholland, and the second came three minutes later as Budnyy blasted a short range shot between the legs of Baker.
The Hammerheads will host the Charlotte Eagles at Legion Stadium in the second round on June 21. It will mark the third time the teams have met in U.S. Open Cup play. The previous games were in 2006 and 2008, which Wilmington won 3-1 and 2-0 respectively.
