Harrisburg’s Brian Sylvestre nearly single-handedly won the match for the third-division City Islanders, making 10 saves, but Maurice Edu canceled out a 39th-minute Harrisburg goal in the 89th minute, and Andrew Wenger added two more in extra time for a 3-1 win in Chester, Pa.

The Islanders found the net three times in the first half, however, and cruised to a 4-2 victory, setting themselves up for a controversial June 17th 4th round matchup against their parent MLS club, the Philadelphia Union.

Dallas Roma F.C., from the North Texas Premier Soccer Association, made history defeating Chivas USA of Major League Soccer on penalties, after playing to a 0-0 draw after extra time. Not only did they defeat their second straight professional opponent in the U.S. Open Cup, they became the first USASA club to eliminate a team from Major League Soccer in the U.S. Open Cup.

It took more than 45 minutes of shooting for the Harrisburg City Islanders to find the back of the net, but when they did, they couldn’t stop. They eventually got four in a victory over Lehigh Valley United Sonic in Round Two of the 2014 US Open Cup
Since the expanded format in 1997, a PDL team has failed to reach the third round only four times (1998, 2002, 2007, 2008). The recent struggles can be attributed to the fact that in 2007, the format was changed so that all non-MLS teams began the tournament in the first round, unlike previous tournaments where PDL teams were matched up with USASA or other PDL clubs.
