2015 Preliminary Round: Cal FC’s two penalty kicks help edge San Francisco City 2-1 to advance in US Open Cup
Cal FC scored on two penalty kicks to advance past San Francisco City FC 2-1 in a 2015 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Preliminary Round match Saturday afternoon at Kezar Stadium in front of a crowd of 1,519.
Lamar Hunt US Open Cup debutants Harpo’s FC celebrated their first tournament berth with a Preliminary Round win over the Kansas City Athletics by a score of 2-0. Second half goals from midfielder Dan Campbell and forward Shane Wheeler pushed the home team to victory in front of a small crowd at one of the practice fields at Dick’s Sporting Goods, home of the Colorado Rapids.
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) conducted the initial draw for the 2015 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, officially revealing the schedule for the Preliminary Round, First Round and the potential matchups for Round 2. The 102nd edition of the second-longest continuously-running soccer tournament in the world will begin Saturday, April 25.
The new competition will begin in the fall of 2015 and will involve teams from the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), US Club Soccer (USCS) and the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) with the qualifying teams advancing to the 2016 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup the following spring.
A source has told TheCup.us that the 2015 US Open Cup Final will be broadcast live on either Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports 2 as part of a new deal between Fox and the United States Soccer Federation and Soccer United Marketing.
