Cal FC caps off the Modern Pro Era’s most exciting round as they become the first USASA club to defeat an MLS team,(without PKs) with a 1-0 extra time win over the Portland Timbers. The Eric Wynalda-led club will move on to play the Seattle Sounders, who cruised past the Atlanta Silverbacks, in Round 4 next Tuesday. Stay tuned for details …

The 99th edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup kicks off tonight with the First Round, which includes 16 games starting at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The opening round consists of 32 amateur teams from the USL’s Premier Development League (PDL), the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and one team from US Club Soccer (USCS). The winners of Tuesday night’s contests will earn a date with a lower division professional team in Round 2 the following Tuesday.
